Monday 1st Tessa Uys, piano Martyn Noble, organ To open the festival in which we celebrate Franz Joseph Haydn, we have two of the master’s concertos for piano, the C major Hob. XV111:1 and D major Hob. XV111:11, sandwiching the sonata for piano in B minor. Hob XVl:32
Tuesday 2nd ICKNIELD PIANO TRIO Anna Le Hair, piano Arwen Newband, violin Sarah Boxall, cello Our first piano trio this year perform Haydn’s Trio in C minor, Hob XV: 13, together with the Piano Trio in D minor Op 32 by Anton Arensky, a lovely comination.
Wednesday 3rd Nigel Foster, piano Sarah Campbell, trumpet A rare opportunity to hear Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto in E flat major, Hob 7e/1 as part of this programme. Almost certainly the most popular concerto of all of ‘Papa’s’ output, composed in 1796.
Thursday 4th Christian Valle, bass baritone Dylan Perez, piano A Norwegian singer and an American pianist combine to perform the great song cycle Songs and Dances of Death by Mussorgsky. Their programme will include one of Haydn’s best known solos for keyboard, the Andante with variations, also known as Un piccolo divertimento, Hob, XV11: 6.
Friday 5th Rosamund Harpur, flute Eric Wolfe-Gordon, oboe William White, clarinet In her return visit to the festival, Rosamund brings with her two friends to play a programme which will include Haydn’s London Trio I in C major, and a new work written especially for the group by Ray Leung, a world premier
Monday 8th Max Mausen, clarinet Scott Lowry, violin Sergio Serra, cello A rare opportunity to listen to two of three trios by Haydn composed for the Clarinettte d’Mour, an 18C development of the clarinet, comparable to the Basset Horn, as well as the trio Serenade by Hans Gal of the last century.
Tuesday 9th Natalie Davies, mezzo soprano Edward Liddall, piano A highlight of their programme will be the dramatic scena by Haydn, his Ariadne auf Naxos, together with the masters’ Arietta con variazioni in E flat Hob: XVII 2b for piano solo.
Wednesday 10th MARYLEBONE STRING QUARTET Iain Gibbs, violin David Larkin, violin Mark Gibbs, viola Hannah Lewis, cello. In the first of their four concerts this year the MSQ will perform Haydn’s amazing Seven Last Words of Our Saviour On the Cross adapted for the string quartet in 1787 from the original orchestral composition.
Thursday 11th Lisa Bucknell, viola Alexandra Lomeiko, violin This two-some will perform Haydn’s sonata for violin and viola, Mozart’s sonata for violin and viola No1 K423 and MartinĂ…Â¯’s 3 Madrigals for violin and viola H.313 - a rare opportunity to listen to these madrigals!
Friday 12th Sholto Kynoch, piano Kaija Lukas, violin Anna Menzies, cello In their very welcome return to the summer chamber music festival the trio will perform Haydn’s Piano Trio Hob. XV no. 30 in E flat, together with one of Beethoven’s early trios!
Monday 15th Edward Liddall, piano Oliver Cave, violin Sophie Haynes, cello The Piano Trio by Haydn, The Gypsy, Hob, XV:25 plus dedications to pianist Therese Jansen Bartolozzi.
Tuesday 16th Chad Vindin, piano Haydn’s Sonata in D Hob Xvi 42, Mozart’s Sonata in A, K331 and Rondo in Am, together with the Beethoven Sonata in Em Op 90. What more could we wish for?
Wednesday 17th MARYLEBONE STRING QUARTET Iain Gibbs, violin David Larkin, violin Mark Gibbs, viola Hannah Lewis, cello. For the second of their concerts the MSQ will highlight another two of Haydn’s ‘named’ quartets, the brilliantly imaginative Op 76 No 2, the Fifths, together with Sunrise, Op 76 No 4.
Thursday 18th Olivia Caputa, mezzo-soprano Lawrence Halksworth, baritone, Keval Shah, pianist In a programme of song entitled The Sea - beckoning horizons with Fauré and Berlioz; sailors and mermaids with Thomas Arne and of course Haydn!
Friday 19th KONSTELLATION Libby Burgess, piano soprano (TBA) clarinet (TBA) Konstellation includes the ravishing Shepherd on the Rock by Schubert and pays tribute to our Haydn celebration with the cantata, Berenice, che fai? in a beautifully balanced programme which will include works by Mozart and Weber.
Monday 22nd MARYLEBONE STRING QUARTET Iain Gibbs, violin David Larkin, violin Mark Gibbs, viola Hannah Lewis, cello. In this, their third recital this year, the MSQ perform Op 33 No 2, The Joke, as well as the masters’ brilliant creation for this form, The Lark, Op 64 No 5. Tuesday 23rd SONG IN THE CITY Harriet Burns, soprano Rebecca Cohen, piano A programmme which explores the music of some of Haydn’s friends – Harriet Abrahms – Anne Hunter, including Ms Hunter’s The Mermaid Song.
Wednesday 24th MARYLEBONE STRING QUARTET Iain Gibbs, violin David Larkin, violin Mark Gibbs, viola Hannah Lewis, cello. And finally, for their last recital this year, the MSQ will play Haydn’s famous The Frog, Op 50 No 6, plus the Op 77 No 1 in G major. A truly beautiful finale to their tour de force!
Thursday 25th Cecily Lock, piano For her debut at the festival, Cecily will include two of Haydn’s solo works for the keyboard. She will open with the Sonata in E minor Hob. XVI/34 and close the recital with the Fantasia C-Dur Hob. XVII/4, 1789.
Friday 26th Tessa Uys and Ben Schoeman, piano By popular demand, as someone once said, the return of these four hands at one keyboard with two of Franz Joseph Haydn’s symphonies arranged for the piano – a BIG FINISH!! |
